Much of the terrorism threatening the world today has to do with interreligious hatred.  Interfaith Tech Associates works with members of faith communities to promote mutual understanding, justice, and peace, using the Internet as an educational tool.  Visit Interfaith Tech Associates and participate in the work of interfaith peacamaking.

New Castle Presbyterians to host Buddhist Peace Walkers, Feb. 5-6:

5th-6th  Buddhist Peace Walkers to be greeted at potluck suppers in Wilmington and Dover and Elkton.  Here are the details:

From February 5 – 9 a group of twelve Buddhist monks, nuns, and novitiates from the Nipponzan Myohoji – New England Peace Pagoda in Leverett, MA (see:  http://www.nichiren-shu.org) will be passing through the area as part of their WALK FOR A NEW SPRING. They began their 40-day walk in Boston on January 7 and plan to reach Washington, DC on February 15.

As they visit communities along their route, they are calling for:

  • The abolition of nuclear weapons

  • The renunciation of war

  • The transformation of our thinking from fear to building a belief in humanity

  • Putting the well-being of human beings and the natural world at the center of our thinking rather than the dominance of economical and material concerns

They are also inviting mayors of the towns and cities that they pass through to join the international peace organization, Mayors for Peace, which was founded by the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. At hospitality events along the route that are put on by local hosts, members of the Walk for a New Spring are sharing their desire to bring forth the power of peace and equity, both within our daily lives locally and within the governmental power structure.

Pacem in Terris has been working with Limestone Presbyterian Church, the Kent County Peace Fellowship and local religious groups in Dover, and Meeting Ground in Cecil County to put together the following plans for the peace walkers during their sojourn in this area. We acknowledge with gratitude all of their wonderful assistance:
