WELCOME TO PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN IN

NEW CASTLE PRESBYTERY!

This website was designed to provide visitors with the most current news and information about Presbyterian Women of New Castle Presbytery.

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN is a churchwide organization whose membership is open to all women. PW members are those who choose to participate in or be supportive of Presbyterian Women in any way. PW intentionally seeks the membership of women from all racial/ethnic groups so that the organization may reflect a vision of the whole church as a community of mutual interdependence in which diversity contributes to wholeness. PW gives strong support to the mission of the denomination and determines its leadership, program and budget.   Learn more about PW and consider joining your local group.

Presbyterian Women in New Castle Presbytery are part of the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic which includes Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, North Carolina, Virginia and a small section of West Virginia, and Presbyterian Women in the Presbyterian Church[USA].

In New Castle Presbytery, the PW organization consists of nearly 50 NCP congregations that have active PW groups.  These groups conduct Bible Study, engage in church and community projects, and contribute to such offerings as the Birthday Offering, Thank Offering, and Fellowship of the Least Coin. PW in New Castle Presbytery truly endeavor to live out the PW Purpose, which follows:

PURPOSE

Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves:

To nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,

To support the mission of the church worldwide,

To work for justice and peace, and

To build an inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA) and

witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom.

The prophet Joshua promised, “God will do wonders among you!” Join thousands of women (and a few men) at the 2009 Churchwide Gathering of Presbyterian Women to see how this promise is ours today. Nurture your faith and be in community with Christian women from across the country and around the world. Learn about mission opportunities and justice and peace issues, participate in Bible study and learn leadership skills. Worship together, share your faith in song and prayer, explore Louisville, Kentucky, and have fun!

Celebrate the wonders of God among us — register now for the Gathering.

Hearing It Directly

Several Presbyterian women had the opportunity to hear Monique Misenga, International Peacemaker in September  tell about poverty in the Congo. It was moving. Sketching a historical background for the backdrop, she explained that the infrastructure was destroyed and numerous challenges exist. Families strive to have one meal a day. Education is provided for those who can pay. Conditions are heartbreaking. She assist women in setting up small business to provide food for the families. Churches are able to assist some as well with education. She had handmade products such as necklaces, tops and linens for sale. Women eagerly made purchases and gave donations. Supporting the Presbyterian Women Palm Project took on a deeper meaning. We were glad we made the trip to Dover to hear from our sister how we can help the Congo grow. (Thanks to Diane Edwards for the pictures.)

Everybody I know owns a cell phone. But I don’t know if they have an ICE contact listed.

Bob Schminkey,  Disaster Preparedness and Recovery Coordinator fro New Castle Presbytery alerted individuals to the importance of this contact data at the NCPW Gathering. (New Castle Presbyterian Women.) In the event you were in trouble  or unable to provide info due to a crisis of any nature, Emergency attendants would automatically check your cell phone for details of who to contact. So, if you don’t have an In Case of Emergency (ICE) person listed in you cell, add it. Be prepared.

Preparedness was a  reoccurring  theme throughout the day. When Janice Parker  spoke on Our Health: Nutrition, preparedness was reinforced. Planning meals and snacks in advance was emphasized as a great way to monitor food in-take. We are less likely to eat whatever is available, if  we prepare in advance. The increases in the size of items such as bagels was mentioned too and let’s not even think about how many things are super-sized. Of course increasing and maintaining physical activity was highlighted too. As the Director of Community Health Association, she’s available to offer other workshops as well. (Where is my walking partner I wondered? You do know having a buddy to exercise with works well for maintaining the discipline don’t you?)

Building strong family intergenerational relationships by nurturing contacts presents challenges. Long distances and separation heighten the concern.  Rev. Bruce Gillette offered that it can be addressed by frequently sending note cards, text messaging if you are so inclined, or sending goodie boxes.  I don’t  know anyone who isn’t  a little thrilled by receiving an unexpected gift of a note card. Keeping a supply on hand or making one if you’re a crafty prepares you to send one whenever the thought hits you. He had useful resources and a number of samples to share.

The mission speech was from an agency that addresses teen pregnancy from a Christian perspective and concluded the  informative pieces on the theme, Cherishing God’s Creation: Our Health, Our Family and Our Neighbors.

We had guest to join us from Maryland. Ruth Williams, our Synod of the Mid Atlantic  representative to the Churchwide Coordinating shared details about the Triennium in July and highlighted an article in our Fall Newsletter that she thought should be sent to Horizon.

We invite you to be with us for the Spring Gathering and hope you will put March 28th on your calendar now. You are bound to gain some helpful suggestions that support your faith journey.
