CLP CliP
Some CLPs will do just about anything for their ministry. In May 1-2, 2009 the youth of Port Deposit Presbyterian Church, led by CLP Rich Watters, held a 30-Hour Famine for the benefit of World Vision International. The five kids who participated had a great time with activities like a scavenger hunt for groceries for Ray of Hope and created a 1500 piece spoon and knife cemetery in the churchyard representing the 26,000 children under five who die from starvation and other preventable needs every day. (That’s one child every 7 seconds.) They also participated in Famine Sunday on May 3, telling the congregation about what they did and what it meant to them.
These youth raised an amazing $1,601.87 for the starving children. Part of the impetus was a promise that if they raised $1,000 Rich would color his hair and beard pink. They met that goal on May 3 and the congregation greeted the newly coifed youth leader after announcements. But, there was a second goal. Some of you may have noticed that Rev. Barry Gray has been growing his hair and beard this winter. That is because he promised if the kids raised $1,500 they could shave him. The goal was reached this past Sunday, May 10, and the kids had at him in the social hall while special music was played and the congregation sang a hymn. As you can imagine, the congregation has had great fun with this and the youth are grateful for the support on the church and the people of Port Deposit. They are already talking about what they can do now, and what to do at next year’s 30-Hour Famine.
It’s good to see the Church of Jesus Christ at work for the Kingdom of God.
God bless!

Heart attack and stroke are life-and-death emergencies - - - every second counts. Coronary heart disease is America’s No. 1 killer. Stroke is No. 3 and a leading cause of serious disability. That’s why it’s so important to reduce your risk factors, know the warning signs, and know how to respond quickly and properly if warning signs occur. Become an Ambassador for Christ as Paul reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6:19 “ Your body, is the temple of the Holy Spirit.” You and I are called to be faithful stewards of our bodies. We have the Power to End Stroke through bringing awareness of risk factors to our family, friends and neighbors.
Stroke Warning Signs:
The American Stroke Association says these are the warning signs of stroke: ·Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body. ·Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding ·Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes. ·Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination. ·Sudden, severe headache with no known cause.
If you or someone with you has one or more of these signs, don’t delay! Call 9-1-1 immediately! Be Healthy Delaware DayThursday, May 21, 2009
